The story of Alchimia begins in 1965, in Bologna, when Maria Ecchi founded a small artisan leather workshop together with her son Giuseppe and daughter-in-law Gabriella. What started as a family craft grew steadily over the decades, with the entire Milazzo family pouring their passion for leather goods into every piece. In 1987, Gabriella's own handbag designs became the foundation of the Alchimia brand — and today the company is run by the third generation, brother and sister Giacomo and Beatrice Milazzo.

Everything about Alchimia is resolutely Bolognese. Design, material sourcing, and production all take place in Bologna, ensuring a 100% Made in Italy product from first sketch to finished bag. The leathers — nappa, cuoio, vacchetta — are selected with obsessive care, and finished using artisanal techniques including hand-applied treatments that give each piece its distinctive depth of colour and character. The result is a leather bag that improves with age, carrying the marks of a life well lived rather than wearing out.

With 60% of production destined for international markets, Alchimia has quietly built a global following among those who know that the finest Italian leather goods don't always come with a designer logo — sometimes they come from a family workshop in Bologna that has been doing this for sixty years.
